Wat Huay Pla Kang and the big Buddha statue “Guan Yin” in Chiang Rai

You find Wat Huay Pla Kang and the enormous Buddha image, on the top of a little hill, in the rural area north of Chiang Rai.

Wat Huay Pla Kung is one of the most impressive temples in Chiang Rai province and is a popular tourist attraction amongst Thais and foreigners alike. It’s one of those places where the first words that come to my mind are “Wow, what a place!”. It is

I first saw it from a distance, it is located on the top of a hill, so it was hard to miss. I knew right away that it was something special I had to see. But even though I was prepared, it took my breath away when I got closer.

 

 

 

I was lucky that it was a nice cloudless day; there was a perfect contrast between the white temple, the giant white Buddha, and the golden and red Chedi placed in the middle on a perfect green carpet.
