Curry powder

Curry powder

Curry powder is a mix of spices native to south-east Asia.

Curry powderIt is very seldom that the curry powder mix contains dried leaves from the curry tree.

When you talk about curry powder there is not much doubt what you are talking about. But if you talk about curry, in general, it can be many things, from a paste to a soup.

The origins of curry powder is a little unclear but is most likely from India and south-east Asia. In Thailand, it has been used for a very long time, both for cooking and in traditional Thai medicine because of its healing properties.

The use of curry in India and south-east Asia are said to go back more than 4000 years.

One of the first times it was advertised in Europe was in the mid-1780s. The ad was run in the Morning times, now a part of the Daily Telegraph. The ad said that the curry powder was brought back from the East Indies.

It is only in the expensive curry mixes the curry leaf is used. The curry tree is native to Sri Lanka and India. The curry tree is very easy to grow and can be grown in a container.

The nutrient fact, below, is based on 100 gram of Curry powder.
